The tongue of the wise brings healing

Publication date Dec 30, 2024

What is your take on New Year’s resolutions? Do you ever resolve to make changes starting January 1st? Like losing some weight, eating healthy or learning a new skill?

I love the motivation that comes with the start of a new year. I don’t always succeed in the long term 😏 but nevertheless, I always try to have some resolutions.

As we head into the new year, I’d like to suggest some great New Year’s resolutions in the coming days—Biblical ones 😃.

Starting today with possibly the hardest one: control your tongue 🫢. This means being mindful about your words and thinking before you speak.

  • “Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.”Proverbs 4:24
  • “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.”Proverbs 12:18-19

It is essential during conflict:

  • “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.” – Proverbs 15: 1-2,4

It also means staying away from gossiping:

  • “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.”Proverbs 11:13
  • A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”Proverbs 16:28

In our digital age, controlling your tongue includes controlling your fingers. I’m referring to being wise while messaging or posting on social media.

The anonymity of the internet makes us forget that our words have power, even online.

Remember, your tongue holds the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21), so choose your words carefully!

Lord, thank You that You have given friend the strength and wisdom to control their tongue! Help them to speak life always. Amen”

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
