God works through fragile people as well.

Publication date Aug 18, 2026

As we’ve been reading through Paul’s story in the book of Acts, I can’t help but feel at times that Paul just couldn’t catch a break. And that trouble followed him wherever he went.

In Acts 23, Paul stands before the Sanhedrin, once again surrounded by hostile leaders. The conversation escalates, but Paul sees through the division between Pharisees and Sadducees and plays to it.

The situation is tense and chaotic, and it's getting out of hand. And perhaps that is precisely what makes this chapter so human.

Paul is not an untouchable hero. He reacts fiercely when he is unjustly beaten. He even has to retract his words when it turns out that he addressed the high priest. Holiness does not exclude humanity. God works through fragile people as well.

The situation escalates to such an extent that Roman soldiers have to take him to safety. And then, in the night, when the commotion subsides, and Paul is alone, the Lord passes by:

The following night, the Lord stood near Paul and said, ‘Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.’Acts 23:11

He offers no detailed explanation and points out no new route, but rather the comfort of His presence and the courage to continue. So, the mission continues, even in the midst of the threat.

Meanwhile, a group of men plots to murder Paul. More than forty people swear that they will not eat or drink until Paul is dead. God protects Paul through a young cousin and a Roman commander. He provides and protects in silence.

Do you ever feel like the whole world is against you? As though everyone is out to get you and you just can’t catch a break?

The words Jesus spoke to Paul, He speaks to you as well: Take courage! He is closer than you think.

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
