Do you feel like your past is holding you back?
Do you have a role model, someone whose life, choices, or character inspires you? Someone who makes you think, ‘I would like to become more like that.’ I do. Her name is Mary Magdalene, and I’m inspired by the way she is portrayed in The Chosen.
She might not be everyone’s first choice. At first glance, she doesn’t seem like the most stable person. The Gospels tell us that Jesus drove no fewer than seven demons out of her (Luke 8:2). That is not exactly the kind of background you expect from a role model, right?
And yet, that is precisely what makes Mary Magdalene stand out to me. She did not just recover from deep spiritual oppression; she rose to become one of Jesus’ closest and most devoted followers.
Her resilience and determination remind me of women in India. The status of women here is complex and evolving. Many still face deep traditional and structural challenges. Yet at the same time, something powerful is happening. Among Indian women, education is improving rapidly, legal rights are strengthening, economic participation is growing, and leadership is emerging.
These are the kinds of developments Mary Magdalene would certainly have appreciated!
To me, Mary is someone to learn from and be inspired by. She moved from being heavily burdened and oppressed to becoming the disciple who first witnessed and shared the news of Jesus’ resurrection. And in The Chosen, we even see her grow into someone who teaches others from Scripture.
However you identify, Mary’s journey speaks to both men and women. Maybe, like me, you see something of yourself in Mary Magdalene. Perhaps you, too, have bounced back from heavy burdens and grown into someone more grounded, wiser, and able to care for others.
If you are curious to explore that, I would love to invite you to take our Character Quiz. It is just a few simple questions to help you discover which character from The Chosen you resemble most.
Who knows. It might just be Mary. 😉
P.S. In the coming days, we will explore the seven characters featured in the Character Quiz. Who knows. You may find that you have more in common with one… or even several of them.
