Be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me - Psalms 31:2

Are there things in your life that make you feel secure? Many things can give us a sense of security. For example:
- Family
- Job
- Finances
- Friends
- Abilities and talents
- Ministry
These things bring comfort, but Jesus says something startling:
“If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26
These words may seem harsh to us. But in reality, this was given to us with great love. Jesus doesn’t say we must simply hate everyone around us, He says, compared to how much we love Him, it should seem like we hate others.
Jesus must occupy the first place in our lives, and our security must be found in Him first and foremost.
After all, everything else is fleeting and will eventually pass away. But Jesus will remain forever. He is the Eternal God. Could you find a shelter, a refuge, more secure than Him? The psalmist, thousands of years ago, wrote this:
“Be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your name lead and guide me. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for You are my refuge. Into Your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord , my faithful God. I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the Lord.” – Psalms 31:2-6
friend, let Jesus be your rock, the refuge for your life, the shelter for your heart. He will never abandon you; His faithfulness guarantees your security.
