Less words, more worship.
I love people, and I am definitely an extrovert; I draw energy from crowds and group settings. However, sometimes I wish I were more patient and a better listener. When people talk a lot, I tune out. I can appreciate those who can say much with few words.
I think Mary, the mother of Jesus, was that way: a woman after my own heart.
She had a habit of treasuring things in her heart (Luke 2:19 and Luke 2:51) and when Gabriel brought her the news of her immaculate conception, she asked only one question before she replied with a simple “I am the Lord’s servant. […] May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38 NIV).
But then, when she did open her mouth, in Luke 1:46-55 NIV, it is nothing but praise and gratitude that flows from her lips:
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for He has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is His name. His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as He promised our ancestors.
I must admit, I talk a lot more than I praise or pray. I, too, could benefit from being more like Mary: less words, more worship.
What about you?
