Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength. – Corrie ten Boom

Have you ever heard the song Don’t Worry, Be Happy? It’s one of those songs with a super catchy tune that just gets stuck in your head.
I’m not sure if Bobby McFerrin was a believer, but I think he captured a profound biblical truth in those simple words: don’t worry.
This week we’ll focus on letting go of worry, guided by one of my favourite verses, Philippians 4:6-7:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
What have you been worried about lately?
- Finances?
- School performance or career achievements?
- Your health or that of your children?
- An uncertain future?
While difficulties are often external, worries attack us from the inside.
I have another question for you: what would your life look like if you stopped worrying?
I’m not talking about being reckless or immature, but just letting go of things you can’t control.
Jesus invites us to relinquish control and trust Him instead:
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. [...] And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” – Luke 12:22, 25
There’s nothing good that comes from worrying.
Corrie ten Boom put it so well:
"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.”
Ask God today to give you the strength to trust Him and release all your worries into His hands. He is big enough to carry them all.
