Parameshwar Pitah, Tu hai nahi mujse khafa
I am eternally grateful that my parents raised me in the fear of the Lord. It is the greatest gift they could ever have given me. To be born into a family that worships Jesus is a blessing I never take lightly.
But even so, no parent is perfect. I was not a perfect father to Zac, and my father was not a perfect father to me. Whether we acknowledge it or not, our relationship with our earthly fathers often shapes the way we relate to our Heavenly Father. Jenny wrote a beautiful Bible Reading Plan on this topic, which I highly recommend.
My father, though deeply loving and caring, was also disciplined and firm. As a pastor, he carried the weight of responsibility, and with it came the expectation that we, his children, would always set the right example in church. We were expected to be on our best behavior at all times. For a long time, I carried that same image into my relationship with God. I saw Him as a Father with high expectations, who demanded holiness. I honestly believed I was a constant disappointment because if I couldn’t live up to my earthly father’s expectations, how could I ever satisfy a God who sees everything? It wasn’t until I encountered the gospel of grace through Pastor Joseph Prince's teachings that my understanding began to change. I discovered the true heart of God the Father—not angry or disappointed, not harsh or demanding, but deeply loving. A Father who desires relationship over performance, and who leads me not by fear, but by love, grace, and continual growth. It is out of this realization and the renewed dimensions of God’s love I experienced, that the song Parameshwar Pitah took birth.
I hope that you, like me, are blessed with an amazing and God-fearing father. But whether you had the most amazing father or a terrible one, he has undoubtedly influenced the way you see God.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you if there are any ways in which your relationship with your father has affected your ability to receive God’s perfect, abounding and merciful Father’s love, and I hope singing this song will help you the way it helped me.
