The generous will themselves be blessed
Happy New Year!! π π
I’m thrilled to start this new year with you π«Άπ½ and am glad you opened your chamatkar email to begin your day (and year) encouraged by God’s Word.
Have you set your New Year’s resolutions yet? Over the past few days, I’ve shared some great ones and have a few more suggestions coming up, all from the Book of Proverbs.
Today one that comes with beautiful promises: generosity.
-
“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:24-25
-
“The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” – Proverbs 22:9
God always rewards generosity because He Himself is a generous God. No matter how much we give, we can never outgive God! All forms of generosity are blessed, but one that holds special favour with God is generosity toward the poor.
-
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord , and He will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17
-
“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.” – Proverbs 21:13
When we think of poverty, especially in a country like India, the magnitude of the problem can overwhelm us. There are two possible attitudes when facing a giant. One is to say, “It’s so big, there’s nothing I can do.” The other is to say, “It’s so big, I can’t miss!”
Our call is not to solve the problem but to be obedient and generous with what we have.
friend, let’s pray together: “Heavenly Father, thank You for being a generous God. You gave us the greatest, most generous gift of all: forgiveness for our sins through the death of Your Son, Jesus. Help friend to follow Your example by practising generosity today. Amen”
