Miriam witnessed God’s faithfulness
Do you have a sister? What is the worst thing she’s ever done to you?
I have one sister who’s eight years older than me. We’re best friends now, but as kids, we definitely did some mean things to each other.
I used to have a loft bed, the kind that’s high enough off the ground to leave space underneath for a desk or a little play area. I had a big pile of soft toys under there, and one night, before my mom tucked me in, my sister hid herself in that pile. After my mom left, and the room was dark, I heard a noise under my bed. In a small, scared voice, I asked, “Who’s there?” And that’s when my sister jumped out screaming.😱
Needless to say, that traumatised me. After that, I never went to bed without checking the pile of soft toys first.
Someone who was blessed with a great sister was Moses. After his mother put him in a basket on the Nile to save his life, Moses’ sister, Miriam, followed the basket to see what would happen (Exodus 2).
When she saw that the Pharaoh’s daughter had found Moses and taken pity on him, she offered to find a woman to nurse the baby. Her bravery caused her mother and baby brother to be reunited, and her mother was even paid by Pharaoh’s daughter to nurse her own son (Exodus 2:7-9)!
During one of the darkest times, while babies were being murdered all around and her mother could not protect her baby brother, Miriam witnessed God’s faithfulness. No wonder she later became a prophetess and helped Moses co-lead the people of Israel.
Perhaps you feel like darkness is surrounding you. Can you think back to instances where you witnessed God’s faithfulness in action?
