God sees you. He knows your pain.
Happy Mother’s Day!
I hope that today is truly and exclusively a happy day for you. A day where you get to celebrate your mother(-in-law) or perhaps be celebrated yourself if you are a mother.
If that’s you, I pray that you feel like the woman in Proverbs 31 today:
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” – Proverbs 31:27-29 NIV
Unfortunately, as we’ve explored this past week, that isn’t the case for everyone. Special holidays like today can also trigger pain for many.
If you, like me, are struggling today, I want you to remember that God has not forgotten you. God sees you. He knows your pain.
When Hagar was at a low point in her life, she met God and called Him El-Roi, meaning "The God Who Sees Me."
When Mary wept bitterly in the garden, believing her Messiah had died, Jesus came and met her. He did not rebuke her tears but called her by name and asked, “Why are you crying?” (John 20:11-16 NIV).
Not only does He see you, He wants to comfort you:
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. – Psalms 34:18 NIV
And did you know that God comforts like a mother, too?
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you – Isaiah 66:13 NIV
If today is not a day of celebration for you, I pray that at the very least it will be one of God’s comfort and His presence.
