He put a new song in my mouth

Publication date Sep 18, 2025

There have been times in my life when I honestly thought, “Things can’t possibly get any worse.” Everything seemed to be falling apart. I felt stuck, hopeless, and unsure of how anything could ever be resolved.

Have you ever had a moment like that?

I can imagine that’s how Jonah felt, the moment he was tossed overboard in the middle of a storm (Jonah 1:12,15).

He had disobeyed God, tried to run away from Him, and now it looked like he was about to die. Even the sailors believed that this would be his death (Jonah 1:14).

But then comes the most unexpected part of the story—both incredible and, let’s be honest, kind of gross: he was swallowed by a big fish, sent by God to rescue him (Jonah 1:17).

When he comes out, not only is his life saved—he goes on to lead an entire city, Nineveh, to repentance and salvation (Jonah 3:10).

We see this time and again in the Bible:

  • Joseph becomes a ruler after being sold as a slave.
  • Peter becomes the rock on which the church is built after betraying Jesus.
  • Moses is considered the greatest leader in history, whereas at one point, he was a murderer and a fugitive.

David also testifies to this principle in Psalm 40:2-3:

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.

So do you ever feel like you’ve hit rock bottom? You’re in good company! Put your trust in God and believe that the best is yet to come!

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
