Spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
One of the things that I love about being a Christian is that we have family all over the world–brothers and sisters in Christ.
When I was 20 years old, I did a solo backpacking trip in Australia. Some friends who had studied at Hillsong College connected me with their old friends there. I ended up staying for a few nights with a Christian family who then connected me with others along my route. Before I knew it, my entire trip was covered–I had a place to stay in every city I visited! 😃
The same applies to our faith journeys–we’re not meant to walk them alone. God has given us family, in the form of other believers, to help us along the way.
Even the Kings (or Magi) in Matthew 2:1-16) didn’t journey solo in pursuit of the newborn King.
There are two things to note here. Firstly, they had each other, and secondly, they asked for help:
Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” – Matthew 2:1-2
Sometimes we, too, can lose sight of where Jesus is. And there is no shame in asking others for help or a little direction.
God has meant for us to live in community with Him, and with others:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:24-25
