But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
We’ve spent the past week discovering the meaning of obedience to God.
As I reflect on this journey, I return to the simple but powerful truth: obedience is a daily choice. It is not something we can store up or delay indefinitely. It must be lived out in the present moment.
Every Bible hero (Abraham, David, Peter, etc.) who had a moment of failure can attest to the fact that their failure started with a decision to disobey God. They would all give us a warning that continued disobedience leads to regret and an invitation to choose a different path—one marked by humility, responsiveness, and alignment with God.
Each day presents us with the same fundamental decision: will we trust God’s way, or will we rely on our own? That decision is not always dramatic, but it is always significant.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. – James 1:22 ESV
This verse challenges us to move beyond awareness into action. Hearing God’s Word is important, but responding to it is where transformation takes place.
Today let’s choose obedience—not as a duty to fulfil, but as a response to a God who loves us, leads us, and knows what is best for our lives.
I know you want the same thing! Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father, today I choose to follow You with my whole heart. Help me to be not just a hearer of Your Word, but a doer. Guide my steps, shape my decisions, and help me consistently walk in obedience. Thank You for Your grace that sustains me and Your presence that leads me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
