The last will be first, and the first will be last.

Today we’re concluding our series titled ‘Cling and Surrender’ about three things to cling to (God’s Presence, God’s Principles and God’s People) and three things to surrender (your Past and your Preferences), concluding today with surrendering your Position.
Positions are great; we need to have people who take on leadership roles in government, the church, and society. The Bible shows us that God Himself appoints people to positions of leadership—for example, King Saul and King David in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 9 and 1 Samuel 16).
However, it’s a slippery slope when our position becomes our identity, and we hold on to it so tightly that we cannot live without the title, power, fame, influence, or praise that comes with the position.
The Bible warns us that “the last will be first, and the first will be last.” (Matthew 20:16). This means positions and priorities change in a heartbeat. So don’t hold on too tight!
A title or position should never be a goal in itself. Jesus did not come to earth to establish His title or position:
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many – Mark 10:45
Surrender your position to God; it is His to grant and to take, and focus instead on serving those around you.
“Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.” – John Maxwell
Lay your position—whether current or desired—at God’s feet. Take a moment to reflect on your ambitions and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any (hidden) desires for fame, power, or position that are keeping you from serving others.
