Are you ready to leave your old life behind?
If you could be a fly on the wall in just one Bible story, which one would it be?
For me, without a doubt, it would be Noah’s Ark. Not because I’m an animal lover, to be honest, I prefer animals on my plate 🫣, but because it's just such an incredible, apocalyptic scene in the Bible.
Noah lived in a society that was becoming increasingly evil and corrupt. God’s solution was to wipe humankind off the face of the earth through a flood. But Noah and his family, because he walked with God, found favour in God’s eyes. God warns Noah about the coming floods and tells him to build an ark. Noah obeys, and when the time comes, he, his family and two of each kind of animal are brought to safety in the ark (Genesis 6 and 7).
Can you imagine?!? The whole earth is flooded, and there is just one massive boat in the middle of that storm, holding the survival of all animalkind and the entire human race.
The moment I would especially love to see is when they open the door for the first time after more than a year on the ark and see a world that is brand new. All the old is gone, all the people, all the animals. Before them lies a blank slate.
God makes us a similar promise:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ. – 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 NIV
After the flood, God promised that we would never again need a physical ark (Genesis 9:11).
But spiritually, we all need one. His name is Jesus. Just as the ark brought Noah from the old world into a new one, through Christ, we get to leave our old lives behind and become a completely new creation.
Are you sure you’re on board?
