For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
If salvation depended on me, I’d be in trouble. Maybe you would too.
The Bible says:
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. – Ephesians 2:8, NIV
Grace means undeserved favour. It means I don’t earn it. I don’t achieve it. I don’t qualify for it. God simply gives it.
Cameron and I went through a season in our lives where the medical care for our son Zac was so overwhelming and all-consuming that it started to break us up. Because of his condition, Zac needed to be monitored 24/7 to make sure he would be able to breathe and needed help with everything. His care was a full-time 2-person job.
Our friends and family saw the situation we were in, and many of them offered their time, help and even money to cover medical expenses. They stepped in to help carry a load we couldn’t carry alone.
This thought still humbles me because we didn’t deserve that kind of generosity, but our loved ones offered it anyway. That’s grace. And that’s what Jesus did for us—on a cosmic scale.
Grace flows from the cross. Jesus took what I deserved so I could receive what I didn’t deserve. He absorbed the penalty of my sin so I could experience freedom and life in exchange for His life.
Grace dismantles pride. I can’t boast. I can’t take credit. There is nothing I can do to be good enough to be “saved.” No, I can only receive the gift that Jesus offers and paid for.
Today’s chamatkar is God’s grace, and it’s available to you right now.
Let’s pray together.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace. Thank You that my salvation doesn’t rest on my performance but on Your kindness. Help me to live in the freedom of grace today. Strip away my pride and teach me to receive what You freely give. In Jesus’ name, amen.
