The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Seven years ago, Cameron and I received an amazing gift, or rather, the promise of an amazing gift. Friends called us and said, “We want to gift you a fully paid-for vacation so that you can relax and recharge.” We were amazed at their lavish generosity.🥹
But before we could take them up on their offer, our circumstances changed, and we were unable to take the trip. For seven years, they kept reminding us, “The offer still stands, whenever you’re ready!” And next month we’re finally going to enjoy this long-awaited vacation!!😍
Salvation works similarly. It is not a purchase, it’s a gift. One that was offered to you a long time ago, but you still need to actively accept it.
Paul writes:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23 NIV
A gift must be received. You can ignore it. You can leave it unopened. But it’s still a gift.
God offers eternal life through Jesus. The question isn’t whether He’s willing. The question is whether we will receive it.
The chamatkar of today is that the gift is yours… For the receiving!
Let’s pray together.
Heavenly Father, I receive Your gift of salvation. I confess that Jesus is Lord. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. Thank You for eternal life. Help me to walk in it every day. I also receive Your gift of rest. Help me to walk slowly today, directed by the Spirit, into the quiet waters of Your Presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
