Jesus is the light in our dark world

Publication date Dec 22, 2024

The countdown till Christmas has begun– just three days to go! Are you excited?

At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. His arrival on earth was much anticipated, and His coming prophesied in the Old Testament, most famously in Isaiah:

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”Isaiah 7:14

Incredibly, Isaiah wrote this 700 years before Jesus was born 🤯. Talk about a long wait!

The Christmas season is about waiting for the light of Christ to come, not just way back in Biblical times but now – in our lives!

When Jesus was born, the world was a mess. Israel was oppressed by the Romans, who had appointed Herod over them as king. Herod felt extremely threatened by Jesus, whose birth was celebrated as the coming of a future King. As a result, he ordered all the boys of two years old and under to be killed. You can read the story in Matthew 2

What a terrible mess, so many babies massacred! And yet, in the middle of that darkness, the True Light came into the world (John 1:9)!

Our world today is messy too. This year alone, we’ve been shocked with news of unending wars, extreme hunger, gruesome rape cases and major catastrophes.

As Christians, we live in both realities at once, watching and waiting for Jesus to be revealed to us, for His light to come into the world and into our lives, while we are surrounded by brokenness.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”John 16:33

Take a moment, friend, to thank Jesus for bringing His light into the world.

“Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to this earth to bring light into our darkness. I pray today that You shine Your light in the dark places of my life as well. Reveal any areas in my heart that need Your light to shine through them. Amen.”

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
