God sees… YOU!
As a worship leader, I am used to being on stage and having thousands of eyes on me. But there’s something special that happens when I look in the crowd and lock eyes with Jenny. I know that she doesn’t just look at me but really sees me.
Because we are in a relationship and she knows me so well, she can tell from a mile away whether I’m happy, stressed or exhausted. She can see right through me and read my emotions like no one else can.
I imagine that’s the feeling Hagar had when she encountered God in Genesis 16. She was fleeing away from her abusive mistress, Saraï, when God met her and spoke to her.
Then something remarkable happened:
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” – Genesis 16:13 NIV
Hagar felt really, truly seen by God. So much so that she gave Him the name El Roi—the God Who Sees. Isn’t that special?
What makes it even more mind-blowing for me is that this is the first time in the Bible that God is mentioned by name.
The first name given to God isn’t one of power, might, strength or justice, but a name that signifies how extremely loving, caring and personal God is. He is the God Who Sees.
Each day this week, we will take time to explore a different way in which God sees us.
To be truly seen by someone is probably the most powerful way to feel loved. Even more than being seen by our friends, our parents or our spouse, we are seen by God!
We serve a God who sees us! Let that sink in. He isn’t too big or occupied to take notice of us, His humble servants.
The Creator of the universe has His eyes on you!😍
