Zehenaseeb hu main
This week, our Chamatkars are taking a slightly different turn. Instead of diving into a Bible theme or character, I’m opening the door to share the stories behind some of the worship songs I’ve written. For today, I picked the song Zehenaseeb.
I loved writing this song because I composed it entirely from Bible verses. For example:
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. – Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. – Psalms 84:10 NIV
Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield. – Psalms 5:12 NIV
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! – Psalms 139:17 NIV
But this song reached its most whole meaning for me in a sacred, painful season, when I began singing it over my son, Zac, in the ICU.
We had recorded Zehenaseeb shortly before Zac fell ill, but it hadn’t been released yet. In that hospital room, surrounded by machines, beeping monitors, and silence heavy with fear, this song became our lifeline.
I would lean close and sing those words over him again and again: You are favoured. You are full of hope. You are called. Jesus is with you. You are blessed. Each line was a prayer, a proclamation, a whispered act of faith. And I remember thinking, what could be more potent than singing the Word of God over my little boy? Nothing. Absolutely nothing!
All day long, the enemy works quietly, attempting to plant lies in our minds—whispering that we are weak, unworthy, forgotten, or insignificant. But the truth stands unshaken: in Jesus, we are highly favoured. So today, I encourage you not just to sing this song, but to proclaim it over yourself and those around you.
