Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Those of us who drive cars know the pain of misaligned tyres.
Nothing worse than going on a road trip and constantly feeling that tension on your steering wheel while your car keeps pulling to one side.
If you keep ignoring the problem, it only gets worse, so you have no choice but to take the car in and get it aligned.
Proper alignment is not only important in cars. Before our actions align with God, our hearts must be aligned with Him. Obedience is not just external—it begins internally. When our hearts are surrendered, obedience becomes a natural expression rather than a forced effort.
I’ve noticed that when my heart is distracted or divided, obedience feels harder. But when my heart is focused on God, my decisions begin to reflect that alignment more consistently.
This is why guarding your heart is so important.
Alignment happens through time with God—through prayer, Scripture, worship, and reflection. These practices don’t just inform us; they transform us. They shape our desires, clarify our thinking, and recalibrate our priorities.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23 NIV
This verse reminds us that the condition of our hearts influences the direction of our lives. If we want to live in obedience, we must first cultivate a heart that is attentive and responsive to God.
Today I encourage you to be intentional about what you allow into my heart and mind. The voices you listen to, the influences you engage with, and the habits you form all play a role in shaping your alignment with God.
Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father, align my heart with Yours. Help me to guard it carefully and keep it focused on what is true and life-giving. Shape my desires so that they reflect Your will, and guide my thoughts so that they remain centred on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
