Show love like a Samaritan

The other day, Cameron and I were curled up on the sofa watching a movie when he casually placed his feet in my lap. I knew exactly what he was after—a foot rub! A few minutes in, he turned to me and said, “I can’t even describe how good this feels. I feel so relaxed and loved when you rub my feet.”
This wasn’t unusual—foot rubs are a regular thing in our house because I know how much Cameron appreciates them.
Showing love often translates into very practical things. Foot rubs are just one small example, but the story of the Good Samaritan is full of meaningful acts of love in action:
Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ – Luke 10:33-35
These are all the ways in which the Samaritan showed love:
- He felt compassion and acted on it. How often do we feel sorry for people, but we’re too busy to stop and help? 🏃🏻➡️
- He was physically present. Sometimes love just looks like showing up. 🫂
- He soothed and bandaged his wounds. It doesn’t get more practical than that! 🩹
- He took him to an inn. Love can be as simple as giving someone a ride.🚕
- He took care of him. Providing him with food and shelter. Me cooking a meal for Cameron is another one of his favourite ways to receive my love.😁
- He paid for him. Perhaps the easiest way to show love is through financial support.💰
Looking at this list—what’s one way you can show love today? And who needs it?
