Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits
Welcome to the last day of our journey to discover how King David, while he was at the lowest point in his life, strengthened himself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6 NKJV).
Pastor Bill Johnson, who wrote a book on the topic of strengthening yourself in the Lord, writes:
God wants us to learn how to strengthen ourselves through Him because developing our skills will promote spiritual longevity. We need longevity because our destiny and potential cannot be attained in a few years; they extend to the end of our lifetime here on earth.
So far, we’ve covered these keys to strengthening yourself in the Lord:
- Go from thinking to thanking
- Go from problems to psalms
- Go from complaints to praise
- Go from compromises to promises
- Go from sulking to silence
The final key for today is: go from tears to testimony.
What that means is not to get stuck on all the things that are going wrong in your life or all the prayers that seem to remain unanswered, but instead to start speaking of all the good God has already done for you and to remember and testify to His faithfulness.
A beautiful example can be found in Psalm 103 NIVUK, where David says:
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel: the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
I encourage you to make your own list today of all the ways in which you see God’s faithfulness in your life. And don’t forget to thank Him for it.😉
I hope you enjoyed this series on strengthening yourself in the Lord, and please let me know if it has blessed you in any way.
