For we live by faith, not by sight.
This week, we’re on a journey of actively seeking God together, inspired by the Kings (or Magi) who visited Jesus shortly after His birth (read the story in Matthew 2:1-12).
Yesterday, we discussed how the men had been actively looking for a sign in the stars. When they finally saw it, they had a choice. They could’ve stayed in the comfort of their homes and the familiarity of their countries, but they didn’t. They chose to radically follow the star.
Their journey was quite the adventure as they were in search of the newborn King of the Jews (Jesus):
Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” – Matthew 2:1-2
First, they encountered a crazy, insecure and power-hungry king, Herod, who killed anyone who threatened him. His violent actions and reactions showed little regard for human life (Matthew 2:2-16).
Second, as we saw on day one, their occupation, that of astrologer, was expressly forbidden by Jewish law. So they travelled to a land where their presence could easily have been met with suspicion or hostility.
I remember the first time I came to India, I felt God had called me, but the road was still full of obstacles. I left behind a ministry where I was loved and celebrated back home, to serve in a country where I knew no one and had to start from scratch.
friend, sometimes God calls us on journeys that are far beyond our comfort zones, but nevertheless completely according to His plan. Seeking God means not only receiving His words, but also moving into acting when He calls.
Seeing the signs is one thing; following them always requires a step of faith.
For we live by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Is God challenging you to leave your comfort zone in any way, friend?
