Are you living free from the curse Jesus broke on the cross?
Today, our pursuit of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament brings us to the beginning: Adam and Eve.
And we don’t have to dig very deep to discover the similarities and contradictions between Adam and Jesus. In fact, Paul has pointed them out several times:
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned. […] how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! – Romans 5:12,17
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. – 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 NIV
‘The first man Adam became a living being’ the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. – 1 Corinthians NIV 15:45,47
But here’s another beautiful parallel between Adam’s story and Jesus’. After Adam and Eve sinned, God told them that the ground would be cursed and produce thorns and thistles (Genesis 3:17-18).
These thorns represent the curse of sin that entered the world in Eden.
During His crucifixion, Jesus had a crown of thorns placed on His head (Matthew 27:27-30). He was crowned with the curse of sin that first came into the world in the Garden of Eden. Not only was He crowned with it, but He broke it!
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole. – Galatians 3:13 NIV
Let’s pray together:
Lord Jesus, thank you for breaking the curse of sin once and for all. I receive all that You accomplished for me on the cross, even though I might never be fully able to grasp it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
