Let your light shine before others

Publication date Jan 11, 2026

We’ve come to the last day of exploring the story of the Kings who journeyed from the far East to Bethlehem in search of the King whose birth had been revealed to them by a mysterious new star (Matthew 2:1-16).

On day one, we discussed how these men weren’t just rich, smart or powerful guys; they were magi–astrologers–much like modern-day horoscope interpreters.

They came to worship Jesus, guided by the star they had seen. Not because they believed He was God, in fact, they didn’t believe in the God of Israel at all. They came because the stars had told them.

These men were seekers; they looked at the stars every night for guidance and for something, or someone, to worship. Unlike Mary and Joseph, who were Jews, they weren’t waiting for the birth of the Messiah, but for a sign in the stars, any sign.

What I love about this story is that these Magi, who were looking for a King, found Jesus, a humble baby. I can imagine it was not what they expected. And yet, when they saw Him, they bowed down and worshipped Him (Matthew 2:11).

Even today, we are surrounded by seekers and most of them, much like the Magi, are seeking in the wrong place. Maybe not the stars, but perhaps they are seeking love, acceptance or identity through self-help, wealth, career or relationships.

They’re looking for something or someone to fill the emptiness only Jesus can satisfy.

And the exciting part is that we get to be the “star” that guides them! Jesus said:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
