The thing I seek most is to live in the house of the Lord.
What is the most powerful question anyone has ever asked you?
For me, without a doubt, it was when Cameron went down on one knee and asked me, “Will you marry me?” It’s been almost ten years now, but every time I think about that moment, I still melt.
Jesus asked some pretty powerful questions, too. This week, I want to go over 7 Questions Jesus asked and you should answer.
One of the first recorded questions Jesus asked is found in John 1:35-38:
The next day John [the Baptist] was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God!’ When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning round, Jesus saw them following and asked, ‘What do you want?’
A seemingly simple question: What do you want? Yet it is so deep and profound.
I have noticed that when you spend time pondering on what you truly want in life, the outcome is often different from what you expect.
Personally, thinking about my deepest desires often begins with a long list of material and practical needs (such as needing money for projects, the right people to help us, a suitable venue for an event, the planning to fall into place, etc.).
But when I sit with God a little longer, dig a little deeper, it typically comes down to this: I want more of Jesus in my life.
That was also the desire of the two disciples to whom Jesus initially posed the question. They wanted to follow Him and spend the day with Him (John 1:38-39).
King David expressed it beautifully in Psalm 27:4 NLT:
The one thing I ask of the Lord — the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
What about you? What do you want?
