Make the best use of the time
The other day, I read somewhere that it is apparently very unhealthy to sit on the toilet for too long—something to do with cutting the blood flow to your legs or increasing the risk of haemorrhoids. I don’t remember exactly 🤷🏻♂️
But it did make me realise that I probably spend way too much time sitting on the pot, and that’s because I end up scrolling on my phone.😏
It inspired me to ask myself this question, and I encourage you to do the same: What was my biggest time-wasting activity during the past year?
Be honest. It might feel awkward or even make you feel guilty. But brushing reality under the rug never changes anything. So, where did you waste time this year, and why did that happen?
Again, for me, it is definitely mindless scrolling on my phone.
“But what’s the problem with wasting a little time?” You may ask.
Well, time is a gift, one that you can only spend once.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. – Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV
There is nothing wrong with resting; in fact, it is a very important practice that God encourages so much so that he dedicated an entire day a week to it, which is called the Sabbath (Genesis 2:2-3).
But resting and wasting time are not the same thing. Rest makes you feel refreshed, whereas wasting time leaves you feeling sluggish. Rest brings you closer to God, whereas wasting time distracts your mind from Him.
Take a critical look at how you spend your time and when you end up wasting it. Create a plan to break free from time-wasting habits and take a moment to thank God for the gift of time.
