He makes me lie down in green pastures.

Publication date Jan 14, 2026

Does it ever happen that you’re so busy or caught up with something that you forget to eat, rest, or even drink water?

Jenny knows that when I get into music mode, writing and producing songs, time stands still, and I can work non-stop for hours. She has to remind me to take a break or bring me a meal.

In the same way, God knows what we need, even when we don’t realise it ourselves.

In Psalm 23, David compares God to a shepherd, and he writes:

He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths. – Psalms 23:2-3 NIV

Do you notice a pattern here? The shepherd has a very active role. He does all the guiding, leading, and refreshing. All the sheep have to do is follow. The shepherd even makes the sheep lie down.

Sometimes, in our Christian life, it can feel like we never do enough. There’s always more serving to do, more evangelism, more caring for others, more Bible reading or prayer. And yes, all those things are good and necessary, but don’t forget to let God lead you to rest.

In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. –  Isaiah 30:15 NIV

Sheep will not rest or lie down unless they feel completely safe and secure. David knew this; after all, he used to be a shepherd himself (1 Samuel 17:34).

God wants to lead you to a place of rest, quietness and trust—a place where you can feel completely safe and comfortable in His presence.

Will you let Him?

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
