Who’s your childhood hero?

Publication date Nov 1, 2024

What do you want to become when you grow up? Or, if you’re already grown up… What did you want to become when you were young?

For those of us who grew up with good dads (and I’m sorry if that isn’t the case for you), as kids, we often wanted to be like our fathers—just as strong, handsome, or heroic as Dada.

As children of God, we should also want to be like our Heavenly Father. After all, He created us in His image:

“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”Genesis 1:27

When we consider God’s incredible qualities, it would only make sense that we want to be exactly like Him because He truly is a good and perfect Father:

  • He loves unconditionally
  • He forgives freely
  • He is slow to anger
  • His grace knows no bounds
  • He is merciful and compassionate

And the list goes on…

Becoming more like God means leaving our old selves behind:

“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”Colossians 3:9-10

However, no matter how much we try to be like God, our human nature sometimes gets in the way. In those times, it is essential to remember that this transformation work isn’t yours; it is God’s work in you!

The Bible assures you of this: “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

friend, are there areas in your life where you must let go of your old, human ways? Invite God in prayer to start a work of transformation in your life today.
