Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty

Publication date Jan 26, 2026

Happy India Republic Day!!

Ever wondered why our country is called India

The name actually comes from the river Indus. Ironically, with today’s borders, the Indus River barely flows through our territory. Yet the name endured through centuries — ever since the ancient Greeks, we’ve been known as India, “the land by the Indus.”

Did you know that God has a name, too? In fact, He has many. This week, we’ll explore some of them together.

God revealed Himself to Abraham as El-Shaddai, which translates as God Almighty. We read in Genesis 17:1 NKJV :

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God [El Shaddai]; walk before Me and be blameless.”

In the rest of the passage, God shares His plan and promises with Abraham and changes his name, too:

“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.Genesis 17:5 NKJV

What unfolds here is quite extraordinary. God addresses someone who many would consider to be an older man, 100 years old, and promises him that he’ll have a son, even though he and his wife are both past the age of having children (Genesis 17:17).

God guarantees the fulfilment of His word to Abraham by introducing Himself as El-Shaddai, the Almighty, the God who can do the impossible.

We serve an almighty God! And the best part? He’s not a faraway and aloof God despite His might. He wants us to draw near to Him!

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty (=El Shaddai).Psalms 91:1 NIV

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
