We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.
Have you heard the popular catch phrase ‘You’ve got this?
It’s empowering and encouraging, giving us the sense that if we dig a little deeper and put in some extra effort, we can accomplish difficult things. And you know what, for the most part, that’s true.
God has blessed us with an incredible capacity to accomplish great and challenging things. It is amazing what humans can achieve when they put their minds to it.
However, sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where we ain’t got it, where our circumstances are simply too hard for us to handle.
Why does God allow us to end up in such situations? That’s the focus of our Chamatkars this week.
The good news is, we are in good company. The Bible is filled with stories of heroes of faith who found themselves in situations too hard to handle where a simple “You’ve got this” wouldn’t suffice.
A great example is King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. He was facing a vast army, mounting an unprovoked attack against Judah. In his distress, he prayed:
We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You. – 2 Chronicles 20:12 NIV
This line became one of our most prayed prayers when our son, Zac, was in the hospital: “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”
God answered Jehoshaphat through Jahaziel:
“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” – 2 Chronicles 20:15 NIV
The next morning, God set an ambush, and the approaching armies ended up attacking each other. By the time Jehoshaphat’s troops reached the battlefield, all the enemies were already dead. No one escaped. All they had to do was carry away the plunder!
God may allow circumstances too hard to handle, so we fix our focus on Him instead of our problems.
If you find yourself in a situation where you see impending doom and absolutely no way out, lift your eyes to God because the battle is His.
